AfterSnap is operated by AI Notes, LLC (“we”, “us”). AfterSnap turns photos and screenshots into useful actions such as contacts, events, reminders, expenses, notes, Wi-Fi connections, and translations. This policy explains what information is processed, why it is needed, who receives it, and the choices you have.

Short version: You choose the images and content AfterSnap processes. Recognized results and your edits are stored on your device. When cloud recognition is needed, selected content is sent securely through api.aftersnap.app to an AI provider only to fulfill your request. When chat searches the web, only the search text goes to Brave Search. We do not sell your information, use it for targeted advertising, or use your content to train AI models. We only measure which of our own Apple Search Ads lead to installs (see below).

Information You Choose to Process

AfterSnap processes content only when you capture, select, paste, dictate, or otherwise ask the app to handle it. Depending on the action, this may include:

Before an image is uploaded, AfterSnap checks on your device whether it looks like an identity document or a payment card. Images it recognizes as one are stopped on the device and are not uploaded. When the check is unsure, the app asks you; you can keep the photo on your device without sending it, or confirm that it is not such a document and continue. The check is automatic, relies on text the device can read, and may miss some. Please do not submit these items for recognition.

Location

If you turn it on, AfterSnap remembers where each new photo was taken so you can find it on a map: one location reading when you press the shutter, only while you use the app (approximate location works too), or the location already saved in a photo you import. Screenshots never get a location, and an imported photo never gets your current position. Locations and place names are stored only on your device. They are never sent to api.aftersnap.app or to any AI service, and they are left out of anything you share or export from the app. Place names are looked up with Apple’s location services. You can remove the location of any capture, turn the feature off, or clear all location history in Settings.

Device & Usage Information

AfterSnap ships without a Firebase configuration, so no diagnostics or usage data is sent to Firebase.

Versions of AfterSnap released after 1.3 (22) send crash and performance reports to AfterSnap’s own server at api.aftersnap.app so we can find and fix bugs. These reports are produced on your device by Apple’s MetricKit when the app crashes, stops responding, launches slowly, or uses too much CPU or disk. A report contains technical data only: the kind of problem, call stacks (memory offsets inside the app and system code), the app and iOS version, the device model (for example “iPhone15,2”), and the device’s region format setting. It does not contain your photos, recognized text, chat messages, location, or app user identifier, and we do not link it to you.

Identifiers & Subscription Status

Each install of AfterSnap has a random app user identifier created by RevenueCat (or, if RevenueCat is unavailable, a random identifier stored in your device Keychain). It is not your name, email address, or Apple Account. The app sends this identifier with each recognition and web search request so the service can apply free-tier limits, prevent abuse, and confirm whether AfterSnap Plus is active. RevenueCat associates it with your App Store purchase history for AfterSnap Plus. These identifiers are used only to operate AfterSnap and to measure our own Apple Search Ads campaigns (below), are not linked to your identity by us, and are never used for tracking or ad targeting.

Apple Search Ads Attribution

Versions of AfterSnap released after 1.3 (22) use Apple’s AdServices framework once per install to learn whether AfterSnap was downloaded after tapping one of our Apple Search Ads ads. The app asks iOS for an attribution token and sends it, with the random app user identifier above, to api.aftersnap.app, which asks Apple about it. Apple answers only whether the install came from an Apple Search Ads campaign and, if so, campaign, ad group, keyword, and ad numbers, the App Store country or region, and whether it was a download or a redownload. We store that answer with the app user identifier so we can tell which ads lead to people who keep using AfterSnap. This is not tracking: no advertising identifier (IDFA) is used, nothing is shared with other companies’ apps or websites, and AfterSnap never shows the App Tracking Transparency prompt because it is not needed. The same attribution token is also passed to RevenueCat, our subscription processor, so subscription reports can show which Apple Search Ads campaign an install came from.

How AI Processing Works

The first time you use AfterSnap, the app shows a privacy notice explaining this processing and asks for your permission. No photo or text is sent to any AI service before you agree.

Before an image is uploaded, an on-device Core ML subject-mask model (U2NetP) may isolate and crop the relevant subject. The selected image or crop, text detected on it by on-device OCR, the capture timestamp, your device time zone, and your app language preference are then sent over an encrypted connection to AfterSnap’s Cloudflare Worker at api.aftersnap.app. When you chat with AfterSnap about a capture, your messages, the capture they refer to, and the earlier turns of that conversation are sent the same way.

The Worker sends each request to AI model providers in this order, moving to the next one only if the previous one fails or is unavailable:

OpenRouter may select among the published endpoints for the requested model, which can include hosting partners of the model’s developer (for example, Microsoft Azure for OpenAI models), and AfterSnap does not send a no-retention routing constraint.

These services process your content solely to return the recognition result or reply you requested. AfterSnap does not keep a copy of recognition or chat content after the Worker finishes the request, and AfterSnap does not use it to train models. Anthropic’s published API policy states that it does not train on API inputs, and first-party Anthropic currently publishes 30-day retention. When a request goes through OpenRouter, retention and training use of prompts follow the published policy of OpenRouter and of the endpoint it selects. No internet service can guarantee absolute security, so avoid submitting unrelated sensitive information.

Web Search in Chat

When you use chat, AfterSnap can search the web to answer you. The search text is written by the assistant and may include words from your conversation or capture. The app sends it to AfterSnap’s Cloudflare Worker at api.aftersnap.app, which forwards only the search text and the number of results requested to Brave Search, operated by Brave Software, Inc. Photos are never sent to Brave Search. Brave does not receive your app user identifier or your device’s IP address, because the request comes from our server. AfterSnap does not save the search text or the results; they are returned to the app for that answer only.

How We Use Information

What We Do Not Do

Data Sharing

We disclose information only where needed to operate AfterSnap:

We may also disclose information when required by law, to protect users or the service from harm, in connection with a business transfer subject to appropriate safeguards, or with your explicit consent.

Data Retention

Recognition request content is not retained by AfterSnap after the request is fulfilled, and provider retention is not zero unless a no-retention route is actually enforced. Usage counters keyed by the random app user identifier are kept for up to about 13 months to enforce monthly limits, and cached subscription status for up to 7 days. The Apple Search Ads attribution answer for an install is kept so campaign results can be compared over time. Recognized results and your edits remain on your device until you delete them or remove the app. Items you approve for Contacts, Calendar, Reminders, Photos, or other iOS services are retained according to your device and iCloud settings.

Crash and performance reports, which contain no content and are not linked to you, are kept so problems can be tracked across app versions. Other diagnostics and security logs are kept only as long as reasonably necessary for troubleshooting, reliability, security, and abuse prevention, subject to our providers’ retention controls. Support emails are retained as needed to answer your request and maintain an appropriate support record.

Security

We use encrypted transport and reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards. Access to service systems is limited to people and providers who need it to operate and support AfterSnap. Despite these measures, no storage or transmission method is completely secure.

Your Choices

You decide what content to submit and whether to approve each suggested action. You may also control or revoke iOS permissions in Settings:

CameraTake new photos for recognition.
PhotosSelect existing photos and screenshots.
ContactsAdd contact details you approve.
CalendarAdd events you approve.
RemindersAdd reminders you approve.
Microphone & Speech RecognitionTurn optional dictation into text.
Wi-Fi ConfigurationJoin a recognized network through Apple’s Hotspot Configuration service.

Some features will not work without their related permission. You can delete local results in the app, delete approved items in the destination iOS app, or remove AfterSnap and its local data. To ask about access, correction, or deletion of support or diagnostic information that can reasonably be associated with you, email us at support@aftersnap.app.

Children

AfterSnap is not directed to children under 13, or the minimum age required in their country to consent to data processing. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children below that age. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us so we can take appropriate action.

Changes

We may update this policy as AfterSnap or applicable requirements change. We will post the current version on this page and revise the “Last updated” date. Material changes may also be communicated in the app where appropriate.
